Hand Muscles (Gross Motor)

Matching bottles to lids game to build gross and fine motor skills

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Gather together many plastic bottles with screw-type lids (mayonnaise, juice, peanut butter, mustard, nut, etc. types of containers)
  • Use larger lids for gross motor skills and smaller lids for fine motor skills
  • Place bottles and separated lids in a basket or on the floor
  • Ask the child to match the bottle with correct lid by screwing the lids onto the bottles
  • Next, let the child unscrew all the lids from the bottles
  • This is also a fun activity for bathtime

Simplify

Set out three lids and bottles for a child to match and place on bottles.

Extend

Include a wider variety of different sizes of jars and lids for the child to use to increase the difficulty. Add the element of making it a game by setting a timer and seeing if the child can put all the lids on the bottles before the timer rings.  You can also use a stopwatch and keep track of how fast the child can put lids on and off.

Up Down Turn Around

(Activity 14 Month 8)

Up, down

Turn around.

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Wiggle fingers

Wiggle toes

Wiggle shoulders

And say "hello"

Up, down

Turn around

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Pat your belly

Blink your eyes,

Blow a kiss,

And say “good-bye “

I Need To Be Honest

(Activity 13 Month 8)

I need to be honest

  My mom and dad say

And telling the truth

  Is just one way!

Why be honest

I ask mom and dad.

You will feel your best

When the truth is always said.
