Stop, Go, Slow, More

Learn finger play "Red Says Stop" to recite in the car

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Learn sign language for the word stop.  Click here to learn. Use this with a child when you want him to stop doing something that is dangerous, annoying, etc. instead of raising your voice.
  • Teach fingerplay “ Red Says Stop” and recite when seeing a stoplight

Red says STOP

Green says GO

Yellow says WAIT

You better go SLOW

Simplify

Share what a stoplight looks like and the colors you see.  Red, Yellow, and Green. Here is a song video to reinforce colors on a stoplight.

Extend

Chat with a child why stoplights are a good idea, what happens when a driver doesn't obey the stoplight, and if all stoplights have the same colors in the same position, etc. Encourage the child to recall the order of the colors on a stoplight - red on top, yellow in the middle, and green on the bottom.

QUESTIONS FOR CHILD

Why is it hard to stop doing something that you enjoy?

What would happen if the roads didn't have stop signs or stoplights?
