Using our taste buds to recognize five basic kinds of tastes

Introduce the five categories of taste - Sweet, Salty, Bitter, Sour and Umami

  • Add one of these ingredients to each of the five glasses of water
  • Salt for Salty Taste
  • Sugar for Sweet Taste
  • Lemon juice for Sour Taste
  • Tonic water for Bitter Taste
  • Soy sauce for Umami Taste
  • Together taste and share the name of each category of taste

After the child has been told the taste names - salty, sweet, sour, bitter and umami; write each name on a label/paper and let child place by the correct glass of water after tasting
