White

Read book "Black and White Rabbit's ABC" and create a schedule for the month

Month 10 · Activity 9 ·   Colors

Instructions

  • Read the story “Black and White Rabbit’s ABC” by Alan Baker or Read/Listen here
  • Let child find white objects in the book as the story is read
  • Look at calendar together and review any special dates - birthday or events - to put on the calendar for this month
  • Each day this month look for the white moon
  • If you can see it when you go to bed, have child draw a moon in that date's box. For example, if you are looking for the moon on September 9th and see it in the sky then draw a moon on the calendar in the September 9th square

Simplify

Click/Listen here to learn about the moon using the book "Moon! Earth's Best Friend" by Stacy McAnulty

Extend

When drawing the moon in the day's section of the monthly calendar, introduce a child to the  eight phases of the moon. A full moon cycle takes 29 1/2 days. Which is:

New, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent
