Fingerplay "Ten In A Bed", counting and a small snack

Instructions

  • Teach the fingerplay  “Ten In A Bed”

Ten In A Bed
There were ten in a bed and the little one said,  "Roll over, roll over."    So they all rolled over and one fell out. There were nine in the bed and the little one said,  "Roll over, roll over." So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were eight in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were seven in the bed in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were six in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were five in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were four in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were three in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There were two in the bed and the little one said,
“Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and one fell out.
There was one in the bed and the little one said,  "Good night!"

(Each time "roll over" is said, rolling motion is dramatized with arms.  When a number is stated, hold up that many fingers.)

  • Gather 10 small edible items - raisins, goldfish, chocolate chip, etc.
  • Ask child to eat 2 items.  Ask how many are left. (answer 8)
  • Ask child to eat 3 items.  How many are left? (answer 5)
  • Ask child to eat 1 item.  How many are left? (answer 4)
  • Ask child how many they need to eat until there will be zero left. (answer 4)

Materials

  • 10 small edible items (raisins, goldfish, chocolate chips, etc.)
  • internet song  "Ten In A Bed" optional
