Learning to Identify a Square
Month 1 · Activity 3 · Shapes
Instructions
- Review the shape of a square with child. A square has 4 corners and 4 equal sides
- Show examples of a square - crackers, pillows, memo pads, etc. come in square shapes, draw a square shape for child or make a square with toothpicks
- Using a sheet of paper (yellow is the color this month), a ruler, and scissors cut out a square shape
- For example, if using an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, measure 8 1/2 inches down from the top and cut across this line for a square shape
- This square will be used in Month 1 Activity 21
Simplify
Have square objects for the child to trace around - frames, books, memo pads, etc. Reinforce, as they trace, that this shape with 4 corners and 4 equal sides is called a square
