Square

Learning to Identify a Square

Month 1 · Activity 3 ·   Shapes

Instructions

  • Review the shape of a square with child.  A square has 4 corners and 4 equal sides
  • Show examples of a square - crackers, pillows, memo pads, etc. come in square shapes, draw a square shape for child or make a square with toothpicks
  • Using a sheet of paper (yellow is the color this month), a ruler, and scissors cut out a square shape
  • For example, if using an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, measure 8 1/2 inches down from the top and cut across this line for a square shape
  • This square will be used in Month 1 Activity 21

Simplify

Have square objects for the child to trace around - frames, books, memo pads, etc.  Reinforce, as they trace, that this shape with 4 corners and 4 equal sides is called a square
