  • Remove the plates from everyone at the dinner table
  • Place them on top of the counter by the sink

Simplify

Plates can be heavy for a young child, so start to learn how to clear a table when you are having a paper plate meal

Extend

Being helpful to others is an attitude to learn while a child is young.  Being taught at a young age to share responsibilities is an important lifeskill.  Setting and clearing the table is an easy method to begin the process. A child can see immediately what he has accomplished and should be complimented when finishing this task well. This "job" can continue while a child lives at home.
