Clearing/Setting Table
Teaching how to clear table, learning about "left" side, and using target word top

Instructions
- Share proper way to clear a table
- At the end of meal, let the child remove dishes from the left side of a person while he is still seated
- If learning which side is left, place a mark on a child's left hand and let the child go behind person seated and then reach with the left hand that has the mark to remove the plates
- Remove the plates from everyone at the dinner table
- Place them on top of the counter by the sink
Simplify
Plates can be heavy for a young child, so start to learn how to clear a table when you are having a paper plate meal
Extend
Being helpful to others is an attitude to learn while a child is young. Being taught at a young age to share responsibilities is an important lifeskill. Setting and clearing the table is an easy method to begin the process. A child can see immediately what he has accomplished and should be complimented when finishing this task well. This "job" can continue while a child lives at home.
