Instructions
Learning to daily make a bed is an important lifeskill that makes a room more organized while teaching the responsibility of a “chore”
Review with a child how to make a bed
1. To begin have a set of sheets on the bed and make when child gets out of bed
2. Hand press the bottom sheet to get rid of wrinkles. If the corners of the sheet have loosened, readjust the folds if not a fitted sheet.
3. Pull up the top sheet and again smooth out the wrinkles
4. Pull up the blanket, duvet or bedspread to cover the bed
5. Add the pillows at the top of the bed
Simplify
Instill bed making as part of the morning routine by deciding on a regular time to make the bed. For example, immediately on getting out of bed, after eating breakfast, before getting dressed, etc. If needed, let adult help with reminding child when the bed should be made.
Extend
Neatness does count and as the child becomes more proficient at bed making this should occur. Treat bed making not as a chore but as something a child can do that helps the family.
