Introducing concept that clocks keep time

Month 4 · Activity 24 · Lifeskills

Instructions

  • Locate the different clocks and watches in your home that tell time: oven clock, cell phone clock, alarm clock, wall clock, wristwatch, etc.
  • Share there are two kinds of clocks - an analog clock (see here) and a digital clock (see here
  • Look at the numbers - notice that each clock only goes to 12
  • Chat about what the clock numbers look like when you wake up in the morning and what the clock numbers look like when you go to bed
  • Listen to this song to learn more

Simplify

Show an analog clock (see here) and point and say the numbers 1 to 12

Extend

Discuss why knowing the time is important.  For example, the start of school, appointments, soccer practice, bus schedules, etc.

Use this clock to make time. Show what time you wake up, go to school, have dinner, go to bed, etc.

QUESTIONS FOR CHILD

How long does it take you to eat breakfast..minutes...hours?

What time do you think you should go to bed and why?  Doctors recommend that kids your age need 10 to 13 hours of sleep a day.
