Making a Megaphone (Fine motor)
Listen to song "Salve Regina Gregorian Chant" and create a "megaphone"
Month 8 · Activity 21 · Physical Activity
Instructions
- Listen to the song “Salve Regina Gregorian Chant” or Watch/Listen here while doing this activity
- This idea recycles an empty paper towel roll
- You will also need about 3 feet of 1/2 inch to 1-inch wide ribbon (could also use yarn to wrap the paper towel roll)
- Tape one end of the ribbon inside the edge of the towel roll and let the child wrap the roll from one end to the other end with the ribbon
- Encourage the child to cover all of the towel roll by overlapping the ribbon
- Use as a megaphone for Month 8 Activity 10 activity
Simplify
To make it easier, you can use clear tape at intervals to help keep the ribbon in place
Extend
This activity uses hand-eye skills so encourage the child to take his time in making the megaphone. Share why people use a megaphone - to amplify or make a voice louder. Click here for a picture of a cheerleader using a megaphone. Articulate your words clearly so the audience can understand what you're saying - learn a cheer with your child: GO PACK GO; WAY TO GO; YOU GOT THIS; DE-FENSE; etc.
Explain that the song "Salve Regina" is a chant and how that is different from other music
QUESTIONS FOR CHILD
Can you name some different types of music and tell me what is your favorite type of music? (rap, country, classical, pop, rock, etc.)
Is there a song you like to listen to that makes you happy? What is the name of the song and why does it make you happy?
