Making Popcorn
Read "Popcorn" and enjoy a popcorn snack
Instructions
- Make a popcorn snack (be aware of possible choking with kernels)
- Use a saucepan with glass top or popcorn maker where you can see the kernels pop
- 2 tablespoons of unpopped kernels and 1tsp. oil make about 1 quart of popcorn
- Child can add kernels and oil before the saucepan is placed on the stove. ADULT WILL BE IN CHARGE OF POPPING THE CORN
- Chat about why popcorn can be a healthy snack - fiber, low in calories, etc.
- Why not enjoy a snack of popcorn while reading this month’s book, “Popcorn” by Frank Asch
- Reading at different times of the day introduces a preschooler that books and words are used throughout the day and not just at storytime or bedtime

- saucepan with lid, stove or popcorn maker
- 2 tbsp. unpopped kernels
- 1 tsp. oil
- salt to flavor (optional)
