Making Popcorn

Read "Popcorn" and enjoy a popcorn snack

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Make a popcorn snack (be aware of possible choking with kernels)
  • Use a saucepan with glass top or popcorn maker where you can see the kernels pop
  • 2 tablespoons of unpopped kernels and 1tsp. oil make about 1 quart of popcorn
  • Child can add kernels and oil before the saucepan is placed on the stove.  ADULT WILL BE IN CHARGE OF POPPING THE CORN
  • Chat about why popcorn can be a healthy snack - fiber, low in calories, etc.
  • Why not enjoy a snack of popcorn while reading this month’s book, “Popcorn” by Frank Asch
  • Reading at different times of the day introduces a preschooler that books and words are used throughout the day and not just at storytime or bedtime

  • Book "Popcorn" by Frank Asch
  • saucepan with lid, stove or popcorn maker
  • 2 tbsp. unpopped kernels
  • 1 tsp. oil
  • salt to flavor (optional)
