Water Squeeze (Fine motor)

Outdoor water activity (Indoor if you are brave)

Month 10 · Activity 21 ·   Physical Activities

Instructions

  • Gather two large non-breakable bowls or plastic buckets and a large sponge
  • Reinforcing the letter “W”, fill one bowl with water
  • Ask child to transfer all the water from this bowl into the empty second bowl by allowing the sponge to soak up the water and then squeezing the water into the second bowl
  • Plan on doing this outside or by the sink
  • Adjust size of bowls to size of sponge
  • This is really a fun way of building up hand muscles

Simplify

A small lightweight sponge (cellulose) is easy for young hands to handle.  Adjust the amount of water to transfer between bowls to your child's ability.

Extend

A sturdier sponge that is "natural"  works well for collecting lots of water and stronger hand development. These are found in home improvement and paint supply stores.
