Making Egg Salad

Cooking egg salad

Month 10 · Activity 16 ·   Cooking  

Instructions

  • You will use the hard boiled eggs from Activity 8, Month 10
  • Let child peel the egg shell off of the eggs and place in a non-breakable bowl
  • Ask about the color of the peeled egg remembering that the shell was painted
  • Using a fork let child mash the eggs until they are crumbly
  • Depending on number of eggs used, add a small amount of white mayonnaise, yellow mustard, green pickle relish and salt/herb seasoning allowing child to taste each ingredient before adding to the egg mixture
  • Mix up well and serve with oval crackers (Townhouse crackers, etc.)

Chat about where we get eggs.  Explain the nutritional value of an egg and why it is a healthy food for us to eat.

One egg contains 20% of the daily recommended intake of choline which is essential for brain and nerve health.

Eggs Contain Calcium- One egg contains 50mg (5%) calcium which helps build strong bones

The sulfur contained in eggs and the additional vitamins and minerals help promote hair and nail growth.
