Month 5 · Activity 16 ·   Cooking

Instructions

Orange Float

Measure and add to a glass:

Fill glass 1/2 full of ice

Add 1/2 cup orange juice

Add 1/2 cup ginger ale, lemon-lime soda (pick a natural soda like Izze) or sparkling water

Stir and add a scoop of orange sherbet

Let sherbet melt a bit before drinking

Add a straw and enjoy

Chat about what ingredients were the color orange and serve for snack or dessert

Simplify

Let the child stir the orange juice into the ginger ale and watch the liquid change to orange.

Extend

Allow the child to fill the cup 1/2 full of ice. Encourage the child to use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to pour the orange juice and soda. Talk about why you need to measure when cooking and mixing.
