Big, Bigger, Happy, Small
Having an "object hunt" for target words
Month 2 · Activity 14 · Target Words
Instructions
- Show a child a small object (paper clip, jack, cotton ball, etc.)
- Ask the child to find something bigger than the object
- Do this with 5 objects (pencil, cup, pillow, block, etc) - each time letting him find an object bigger than the shown object
- Encourage the child to recall and tell you about 2 happy events
Simplify
After showing the child one small object (paper clip, jack, cotton ball, etc.) let the child find 5 objects that are bigger than the original small object.
Extend
Select a small object (for example a cotton ball) and let the child find an object that is bigger (for example a tennis ball). Now use this object (tennis ball) and let the child find something bigger (for example wastepaper basket). Now ask the child to find something bigger than the wastepaper basket and continue until you have 5 objects that are progressively bigger.
QUESTIONS FOR CHILD
Would you rather be big or small and why?
Do you have to be big to be kind? Do you have to be big to be a bully?
