Finger play "I Need To Be Honest"
Month 8 · Activity 13 · Character Traits
Instructions
- Help a child learn the poem “I Need to be Honest”
I Need To Be Honest
I need to be honest
My mom and dad say
And telling the truth
Is just one way!
Why be honest
I ask mom and dad.
You will feel your best
When the truth is always said.
Simplify
Say each line and have a child repeat. Say the first two lines and let the child repeat. Continue until the first four lines are learned. When the child is ready, continue the same way for the second stanza.
Extend
Have the child memorize all eight lines. Ask the child to say fingerplay at various times during the week. Write down the fingerplay on an index card while child recites and keep in a special spot (envelope, card file, kitchen cupboard, etc.) to be referred to later.
QUESTIONS FOR CHILD
Can you remember a time when you didn't tell the truth? What happened?
Would you rather be known as a person who tells the truth or lies?
