Sugar vs. Salt

Instructions

  • You will need about 1/4 cup of white sugar and 1/4 cup of regular salt
  • Place sugar in 1 bowl and salt into a second bowl without child seeing
  • Place the two bowls in front of the child
  • Ask child to touch the two ingredients and describe how they feel
  • Ask child to smell the two ingredients and describe how they smell
  • Ask child to carefully shake the bowls and describe what they hear
  • Ask child if they think the same ingredients are in each bowl or if they are different 
  • Ask child to taste the two ingredients and describe how they taste
  • Help child understand the meaning of sugar and the meaning of salt by how they feel, smell, sound, and taste
