Eating Healthy

Creating healthy meals

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Gather 2 large paper plates, magazines, scissors, and glue
  • Share with a child that some foods are healthy for you to eat as they make a body grow up strong. (vegetables, meat, fish, fruit, etc.) Some foods do not give the needed nutrients to help you grow and keep you healthy. (chips, soda, candy, etc.)
  • Find pictures of foods (or draw your own foods) in magazines that would be healthy choices to eat
  • Cut or tear out the pictures and glue on a paper plate
  • Find pictures of foods (or draw your own foods) in magazines that would not be healthy to eat all the time
  • Cut or tear out the pictures and glue on the second paper plate
  • Place plates where the child can see easily to remind them of making proper food choices

Simplify

Share that a car needs gas to go and our bodies also need fuel to move, play, and think.  Our bodies fuel is food and it is best to fill our bodies with healthy food choices.

Extend

Give the child a paper plate and let them fill the plate with pictures of foods they would like to eat for a healthy dinner. Share portion control and the number of items to eat at one meal.

Up Down Turn Around

(Activity 14 Month 8)

Up, down

Turn around.

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Wiggle fingers

Wiggle toes

Wiggle shoulders

And say "hello"

Up, down

Turn around

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Pat your belly

Blink your eyes,

Blow a kiss,

And say “good-bye “

I Need To Be Honest

(Activity 13 Month 8)

I need to be honest

  My mom and dad say

And telling the truth

  Is just one way!

Why be honest

I ask mom and dad.

You will feel your best

When the truth is always said.
