Gorp Spread

Healthy child-made snack

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Let a child measure and combine 1/4 cup peanut butter (almond, cashew, etc.) with 2 teaspoons of honey (optional)
  • Wash, core, and slice an apple
  • Let the child spread the mixture on apple slices
  • Add raisins to each slice. We are working with the number 6 this month so encourage the child to use 6 raisins.
  • Serve with slices of cheddar cheese

*Nut Allergy Alert

Simplify

This is called a gorp spread.  The acronym is Good Old Raisins and Peanuts. Write the word gorp on a wipe board or piece of paper and ask the child to point to the letter that makes the beginning sound of peanut (P); letter that makes the beginning sound of good (G); letter that makes the beginning sound of raisins (R); and the letter that makes the beginning sound of old (O)

Extend

Have a conversation about why eating healthy foods is important.  Share how the apple and raisins are fruit and give us carbohydrates and that the peanut butter supplies protein.

Up Down Turn Around

(Activity 14 Month 8)

Up, down

Turn around.

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Wiggle fingers

Wiggle toes

Wiggle shoulders

And say "hello"

Up, down

Turn around

Touch the sky,

And touch the ground.

Pat your belly

Blink your eyes,

Blow a kiss,

And say “good-bye “

I Need To Be Honest

(Activity 13 Month 8)

I need to be honest

  My mom and dad say

And telling the truth

  Is just one way!

Why be honest

I ask mom and dad.

You will feel your best

When the truth is always said.
