Listen to the song "Miss Mary Mack" and using dominos for building

Instructions

  • Listen to the song “Miss Mary Mack” while sharing this activity. Click here to listen
  • Together select seven black dominoes
  • Let child line up the seven dominoes in a trail so that when the first one is pushed all the remaining dominoes fall down
  • Alternate with the child different ways to line up the black dominoes so all fall down

Simplify

Begin with only two dominoes and push one domino to knock over both of the dominoes.  Add one more domino and see if the three dominoes can fall in a line.  Keep counting dominoes, one at a time, and see if the child can make a trail of falling dominoes.

Extend

Select the dominoes with one to seven dots for lining up and line up in order of the number of dots. Ask the child if you added one more domino to the seven dominoes, how many dominoes would you have?  Line up and see if the child can make a trail for all dominoes to fall. Keep adding and counting one more domino to the trail.
