First Name

Identifying letters in a child's name and listen to ABC (The Alphabet Song) 

Month 1 · Activity 1 · Name Activity

Instructions

  • Together select the letters needed to spell a child’s name
  • Spell a child’s name on the cookie sheet using the magnetic letters
  • Remove the first letter saying the name and sound of the letter and give to the child
  • Have child replace letter in the proper spot saying aloud name and sound of the letter
  • Remove the second letter saying the name and sound of the letter and give to the child
  • Have child replace letter in the proper spot saying aloud name and sound of the letter
  • Repeat until all letters are replaced
  • Mix up all the letters and together place in the correct order for child’s name
  • Listen together to the ABC Song (The Alphabet Song) and begin to sing along.  Listen to the sound of the letter that begins the child’s first name.

Simplify

Write child's name on a piece of paper so they can use as a guide when selecting each letter

Extend

Instead of taking away just one letter, remove two or three letters at a time for the child to place correctly on the cookie sheet to spell their name correctly
