Color Fingerplay

Memorization of "Way Up High In The Apple Tree" and target word high

Month 3 · Activity 26 ·   Surprise

Instructions

Way up high in the apple tree

Two little apples smiled at me

I shook that tree as hard as I could

Down came the apples

Mmmmmm they were good.

Simplify

Write the fingerplay on an index card and keep a file of fingerplays ready to share with a child. Fingerplays help a child learn to be creative, social, develop motor skills, learn language development, body awareness, etc.  They are a fun multi-sensory learning tool that helps to bond an adult and child.

Extend

Chat with a child about other fruits that grow on trees and adapt the fingerplay to that fruit.  For example,  Way Up High in a Coconut Tree...Way Up High in a Banana Tree... Way Up High in a Pear Tree, etc. Memorization is an important learning skill and fingerplays are a fun way to practice the skill.

QUESTIONS FOR CHILD

Pretend you are a tree and tell me about your life.

Can you share with me something you have memorized - a joke, poem, fingerplay, or song?
