Learning Phone Number
Learning how to make a phone call
Month 7 · Activity 25 · Lifeskills
Instructions
- Find a toy phone or non-functioning phone
- Show the child how to dial or punch the phone number he needs to remember
- Expose the child to all the phones in his “world” - cell, landline, rotary dial, etc.
- Continue practicing until the child can dial his own phone number with area code from each type of phone. This might take several opportunities before the child is comfortably dialing a phone
Simplify
Write down the phone number you want child to remember on a piece of paper. Together, look at the numbers and "dial" on the phone.
Extend
Review when you should dial the emergency number 911 instead of trying to call a parent
QUESTIONS FOR A CHILD
We can call on a phone and just talk or we can see the person and talk. Would you rather just talk or would you like to see the person you are talking with and why?
