Shape Placement
Creativity with shapes
Month 4 · Activity 19 · Art
Instructions
- Select a large sheet of construction paper to make a placemat
- Give a child shape stencils of circle, square, and triangle (stencils can be made or purchased (it is easier for a child to trace inside a design)
- Let child trace stencils on placemat making designs or objects with the shapes
- Can make shape placemats for each family member through the month
Simplify
While tracing is a necessary skill, just have a child draw triangles, squares and circles.
This video reviews the shape of a triangle
Extend
Encourage the child to combine the shapes to make a figure or picture. For example, - a large circle for a head, two triangles for eyes, square for a nose, and a small circle for a mouth, etc.
