Helping adults prepare children for kindergarten and life.

Dressing

Clothes Hunt Game

Instructions Printer-Friendly

  • Ask the child to find an item of clothing with a zipper
  • Ask the child to find an item of clothing with buttons
  • Ask the child to find a shoe that laces
  • Ask the child to find a shoe with velcro
  • Practice zipping, buttoning, lacing, and velcroing

Simplify

Have a bag of clothes that includes a zipper, button, velcro, and shoelaces. Let the child choose the correct object when you ask and practice the skill needed with the clothing. For example, ask a child to choose an item of clothing from the bag that has a zipper.  Now together zip and unzip the zipper.

Extend

This is fun to do while together you look inside a child's closet. Make sure you have the object in sight and give more than one direction at a time to the child. For example, please find me an item of clothes that is blue, has a pocket and a zipper OR please find me an item of clothes that is a jacket, has a hood, and a button, etc.

QUESTIONS FOR CHILD

Can you tell me about some jobs where people wear the same clothes? (firemen, sports teams, student uniform, etc.)

What is a favorite outfit that you like to wear?
