Completion

  • Read the book “Little Blue and Little Yellow” by Leo Lionni or Read/Listen here
  • It is suggested that your wash hands before beginning this activity
  • Give a child one container of a snack-size vanilla/lemon/banana pudding. Depending on the brand of pudding and its color we can refer to this as yellow pudding
  • Have the child put his finger in the yellow pudding to touch
  • Ask the child how he would say the pudding feels (squishy, yucky, smooth, etc), and then ask him to take his finger out of the yellow pudding.
  • Give the child one spoon and together empty the pudding onto a flat plate. Smooth all of the pudding onto the plate with a spoon.
  • Ask the child to draw with one finger one capital letter A in the pudding. Use the spoon to erase it.
  • Ask the child to draw the number 1 in the pudding, beginning at the top and going down.
  • Next, have the child draw the first letter of his name in the pudding.
  • Draw a square in the yellow pudding. Have some fun drawing again capital A, number 1, the first letter of the child's name, and a square in the yellow pudding.
  • Encourage your child to participate in an experiment. Experiments help to nurture a child's curiosity.  You will need two glasses filled about half full of water and red and yellow food coloring.
  • Let your child put the water in the glasses until half full of water.  Then carefully let the child put two drops of blue food coloring in one of the glasses of water and then two drops of yellow food coloring in the other glass of water and stir with a spoon.
  • Ask the child what will happen when you mix the two colored glasses of water together in one glass.  Now let the child pour the water out of one glass and in the other glass so the two colors are together.
  • WOW - the color green is now in the one glass.
